May 2021

Dear Parents:

The last month of this school year has arrived and we have a schedule packed with fun. Nonetheless, April was a wonderful month of growth for our students as they completed the Arizona State Testing. Afterschool programs started back in March and will continue through May. Students are enjoying: Broadcasting, Guitar, Gardening, and Scrapbooking Club.

The 2020-2021 school theme has been “Embracing Excellence Through Conquering Challenges.” Mao Zedong said, “Once all struggles are grasped, miracles are possible.” This school year showed how overcoming challenges can lead to great things. We are so proud of students for conquering distance learning.

A special thank you to our volunteers for their time to help support the educational efforts of the school. This includes our outstanding School Board and staff who continually support students through whole child instruction. A huge thank you to the Wickenburg Rotary Club, Mr. and Mrs. Hankins, Dr. Klaphake, and Mr. Erickson (Mr. Erickson’s father) in helping with the new acoustical panels that were installed in the Gym.

Student Councils have been busy this year. Our Anti-Bully Council has been working hard to bring awareness about the effects of bullying and how to stop it. This month’s quote was given to us by our 4th grade representative Tristen Sorrells: “Your words and actions today impact your future.” Health Council is continuing the on-site “Track-a-Lap” activity. In May, Student Council will be hosting Spirit Days and the Cougar Buck Store.

Midterm Progress Reports were mailed home in April and report cards will go home by the first week in June. We will be hosting an Honors Assembly this year. K-4th grades at 9:30 am on Tuesday, May 25th (5/25), and 5th-8th grades will take place on Tuesday, May 25th (5/25) at 2:30 pm. We ask that only 2 family members attend, and masks worn on the school site. The School will be hosting 8th Grade Promotion this year on Wednesday, May 26 (5/26) at 3:00 pm. This event will not be open to the public; invited only guests will attend.

AimsWeb Benchmarking and the Spring Map testing will be taking place 5/10-5/13 please help your child by making sure they get a good breakfast and a good night’s sleep. These tests are equally important to track educational growth of your student and target identified needs for future instruction.

Speaking of next school year 😊: Please continue to monitor the ClassDojo/school website (www.congressdistrict.org)/Alert messages/mail. Currently, school will start on-site Monday, July 19, 2021 for Congress Elementary students with routine bus services provided. The school calendar will be included as a flyer with this letter. Updated supply lists will go home by the end of May.
