February 2024

Dear Parents and Guardians,

2024 has begun with a marvelous flurry of activity and accomplishments! We will hit the 100th day of school on February 5th. There is a total of 157 days of instruction during this school year. Thank you for having your child(ren) back to school and ready to learn after the Winter Break. We want to welcome to new Board Members: Ms. Kris Campbell and Mr. Kent McGrew. Thank you to Mr. Zambrano and Mrs. Fisher for their service. Mrs. Cathy Campbell will be the new Board President.

Many activities were enjoyed in January from basketball games to spirit days. Boys and Girls Basketball teams played outstandingly at the tournament. After-School Programs continue to make a difference for our students. We have added some new clubs to our list this time that include: Debate, Soccer, and Fitness. We also have returning clubs such as cooking and scrapbooking. Mid-Trimester Reports were also mailed home in January.

Congratulations to our students, families, volunteers, community, staff, and school board for receiving an “Excellence in Education” award for the school district/school from the House Education Committee. This is the second year the House Education Committee has given the award. The school district was chosen based upon one of Arizona’s highest A letter grade growth scores and for the retention of teachers. The school was asked to share what was the “special sauce” that causes results. Dr. Miller used the acronym C.A.R.A.T.S. (Congress-Local School/Accountability-Data Driven Decisions/Respect-Culture of Respect for the profession of education/Acknowledgement-Celebrating growth and where we need to grow/Teaming-Teaming that includes the “whole child”/Support-Funding, Grants, and Other Services.  The speech ended with “Those we educate are priceless”.

Please mark your calendar for February events. Upcoming events include the K through 8th Grade STEAM Showcase on Tuesday, February 6th (4:00 to 5:00 pm), and the end of Second Trimester on Monday, February 12th. Parent-Teacher Conferences will be on February 21st and 22nd with the Honors Assembly happening on Tuesday, February 27th. In addition, in February, the Health Council will be hosting a Health Fair that will be open to the community. The Health Fair will include local Congress vendors as well as vendors and organizations from around the County. Watch for additional information.
