July 2021

Welcome to the Congress Elementary School Family! Our District's Vision has two parts: "Students enjoy learning and success" and "Students discover the world and its opportunities." Congratulations to Eddie Vazquez for winning the Student Council contest on determining this year’s school theme. The 2021-2022 school theme is “Embracing Excellence through Hard-work, Time, and Patience. Leo Tolstoy stated, “
The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.”  A foundation of hard work leads to success, while greatness within will develop over time. After last year’s growth in the ability to conquer challenges, we look forward to another outstanding year of learning.

To support excellent instruction, the school instructional theme is "Embracing Excellence through Whole Child Education". To learn more about whole child education, please visit the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development's Whole Child website at: http://www.wholechildeducation.org. At Congress Elementary School, we are committed to facilitating the development of every child's maximum potential.

This year, we would like to welcome: Mrs. Coker as the first-grade teacher; Mrs. Ortiz as the third-grade teacher; Mrs. Johnson as the Title One Director/PK4 Teacher; and Mrs. Spear as the Special Education Teacher. Mrs. Ortega, paraprofessional, will now be Title One instructional support.

We appreciate the time and energy of all those involved with the school. This includes the elected Congress School Board members: Mrs. Diane Jones (School Board President), Mr. James Grogan, Mr. David Zambrano, Ms. Pat Fisher, and Ms. Brenda Newell. A special thank you to Mrs. Newell for her time and service. She will be resigning from the school board. If you are interested in serving on the School Board, please contact the school’s office. School Board meetings are held every second Wednesday of each month at 5:00 p.m. in the school library.

A reminder that the first day of School is Monday, July 19. Currently, school sites are banned from “mask mandates”. Masks are optional on the school site as well as the school bus. CDC guidance for schools will still be used to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Looking forward to another successful and collaborative year,

Dr. Stephanie Miller, Superintendent
