April 2020

Dear Parents:

March has been a month of change. Due to COVID-19, all Arizona State schools will be physically closed through the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. This was determined by Governor Ducey and Superintendent of Instruction, Honorable Kathy Hoffman.

Congress School is providing remote school learning opportunities (outside of brick and mortar/traditional schoolhouse) through the remainder of the official 2019-2020 school year. Teachers will be available from 10 am to 3 pm, Monday through Thursday, following the adopted school year calendar. Every Thursday, 8:30 am to 1:00 pm, support material and lesson outlines will be available for pick-up at the school cafeteria/or online. Class Dojo will be used as a primary source of communication.

House Bill 2910 (HB 2910) was signed by the Governor. Passage of this Bill, means there will be NO State Testing for all students during this school year. K-8 students will promote based upon school work, expected progress, and completion of assignments. MidTrimester Reports will be mailed home this month. HB 2910 also removed possibility of third grade student retention (for this school year) under the Move On When Reading Act (MOWR). Students, under normal school conditions, may be retained based upon State testing scores in the area of English Language Arts (ELA) during their third grade year in school.
